This school was originally founded in 1972, sponsored by some prominent government retirees and veteran teachers. Owing to the lack of sufficient funds to renew facilities and to retain excellent faculty, the enrollment was suspended for three years (1975-1977). During that period, Mr. Lin Yu-Chi, the late-president of Hung Kuo Construction and Affiliated Co., Ltd. was invited to save the school. Mr. Lin was willing to help the school but, unfortunately, he passed away before his mission was successfully accomplished.
In order to complete the mission to revive the school, Madame Lin Hsieh, devoted herself to the reform and rehabilitation of Sze Hai. With the support of her siblings and other directors of the board, the reforms were very successful. Remarkably, Mr. Lee Yuan-tsu (the Minister of Education then, who later became the vice-president of the ROC), extended his great expectations and heartfelt encouragement to the new board of trustees.
Special thanks should go to Dr. Hsieh Lung-sheng, who served as the president (1982-1990). During his presidency he completely committed himself to the school administration and future. Due to his brilliant persevering leadership he made various significant achievements and thus laid a solid foundation for the upgrading from Sze Hai to De Lin Institute of Technology.
Since 1978, the institute has been steadily growing in all aspects for over two decades. In 2001, Sze Hai was officially upgraded to a university- level Institute and renamed De Lin Institute of Technology. The school discipline is to enlighten students with morality and to make graduates benefit society. At present the school is expediting the materialization of our common objectivesXglobalization, information digitization, health promotion and holistic education.
